What exactly is executive functioning?
Executive functioning is the set of skills your brain uses to get things done — from remembering assignments and staying focused, to managing emotions and following through on tasks. These skills help us stay organized, plan ahead, and meet everyday expectations, both in and out of school.
Everyone uses these skills every day, but they don’t always come easily — and they can feel harder on some days than others. Each student has their own unique capacity for executive functioning, which can shift depending on the environment, stress level, or support in place. Neurodivergent students may experience more frequent or noticeable challenges in these areas.
The good news is that these skills can absolutely be learned and strengthened. That’s where coaching comes in — helping students to build practical strategies so they can feel more confident, less overwhelmed, and more in control of their learning and everyday life.

Hi, I’m Shawna Olejniczak — but you can call me Coach Ole! I’m a Nationally Certified School Psychologist with 12 years of experience working in public schools, where I’ve worked closely with students, families, and educators to support learning, behavior, and emotional well-being.
Throughout my career, I have:
>> Provided direct support to students working on executive function skills
>> Attended trainings with leading experts in executive functioning
>> Delivered trainings for teachers, interventionists and parents on supporting executive function skills
>> Evaluated students' needs for special education which often included executive function assessment
Over the years, I have seen just how essential executive function skills are to student success.
I have had times when my own executive functioning has been pushed to the limit. I understand the feeling of being stretched beyond capacity — and I know from experience that the strategies work, because I’ve used them myself.
I’m passionate about helping students feel more confident and capable by giving them the tools they need to manage school and life with greater independence — one step at a time.
Coaching Services
How I Help
Coaching services are designed to build and strengthen executive function skills in students, leading to improved academic performance and personal growth. Each student is unique and services will align with individual needs and goals. The coaching experience is a collaborative effort between the coach, student, and family.
Individualized Coaching
Personalized coaching sessions focus on enhancing organizational skills, time management, and study techniques, working closely with each student to address their specific challenges and empower them to reach their full potential.
Skill Development
Students will strengthen their ability to plan, get started on tasks, stay on track, and follow through to completion. We’ll focus on key executive function skills like time management, organization, memory, and self-regulation. The strategies taught will support students' current goals while also building a foundation for long-term success.
Goal Setting
Setting and achieving goals is a key component of the coaching approach, guiding students in creating actionable plans, establishing benchmarks, and staying focused on their path to success.
Progress Tracking
Each student's progress will be tracked throughout the coaching journey, providing feedback, celebrating milestones, and adjusting strategies as needed to ensure continuous improvement. Regular family meetings will be scheduled to review progress and check on goals.
